Vienna, Austria – [March 10, 2025] – Borealis is proud to announce the successful completion of the Operation Clean Sweep® (OCS) certification for all its polyolefin (PO) production locations, marking a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to zero pellet loss. This achievement comes after more than six years of dedicated efforts and collaboration across the entire value chain.
In 2014, Borealis was one of the first companies to sign the OCS pledge when it was introduced to Europe. Recognizing the limitations of a voluntary pledge in a society increasingly sensitive to microplastics, Borealis, along with PlasticsEurope and other key stakeholders, initiated the development of a robust certification standard. This standard, built on the six OCS pledge points and the ISO 14001 environmental management standard, was designed to ensure credibility and trust.
Borealis integrated the OCS standard into its management system and implemented it across all locations. Its Belgian production sites Kallo and Antwerp were among the first in the world to pilot-test and achieve full certification by the end of 2023. By early March 2025, all of Borealis PO sites are now OCS certified.
"Our proactive approach to Zero Pellet Loss has not only prepared us for upcoming regulations, but has also positioned Borealis as a role model and driver of change in the European plastics value chain. I am very proud of our dedicated team that continues to reinvent essentials for sustainable living," says Wolfram Krenn, Borealis Executive Vice President Operations.
