In partnership with BMB S.p.a., Engel, ARBURG and ONI
The FAKUMA 2024 fair, held from October 15 to 19 in Friedrichshafen, Germany, was once again the stage for Borealis and its value chain partners to present innovative plastics processing solutions. This year, we participated in six key collaborations, showcasing the latest high-performance solutions designed to meet the evolving needs of our shared customers in the packaging and healthcare sectors.
From amongst the featured grades, several are available based on circular materials from Borealis’ Bornewables™, ISCC PLUS-certified polyolefins produced from renewable feedstocks. Moreover, these grades can be obtained also from our portfolio of Borcycle™ C materials, manufactured with chemically recycled feedstocks.
Our partner BMB S.p.a., a specialist producer of injection molding machines, created boxes for non-food applications using Borcycle™ M UJ599MO-90, a mechanically recycled polypropylene (PP) grade from the Borcycle™ M portfolio. Borcycle™ M is an ever-advancing transformational technology for mechanical recycling that gives polyolefin-based, post-consumer waste another life; a solution for lowering carbon footprints whilst raising material quality fit for demanding applications.
Meanwhile, Engel, experts in the production and automation of injection molding machines, held a live processing demonstration using Borealis BH381MO—a PP grade known for its balance of high stiffness and impact strength—to create rigid packaging. This grade is also available based on renewable and chemically recycled feedstocks through our Bornewables and Borcycle C portfolios.
By using Engel’s injection molding machine, our partner ONI, one of the leading providers for cooling system technology to heat recovery, air conditioning, ventilation, clean room technology, compressed air supply and machine optimization, produced directly on their stand bottle trays with Borealis Borcycle™ M XPF1011SY-90. Our Borcycle™ M XPF1011SY-90 grade is manufactured with the mechanically recycled feedstock.
Global injection molding machine manufacturer ARBURG, another valued partner, hosted three collaborations at their stand. For packaging customers, they held a live demo producing caps from BorPure™ RF777MO, a transparent random copolymer with excellent organoleptic properties, based on our proprietary Borealis Borstar™ Nucleation Technology (BNT). This material is particularly well-suited for food and non-food applications, making it a versatile choice for rigid packaging solutions. The same material was used for injection molding of razor covers, a product example for personal care.
For customers in the healthcare sector, ARBURG demonstrated the production of syringe plunger rods produced from our Bormed™ RF825MO, a polypropylene random copolymer designed specifically for use in healthcare applications.
FAKUMA 2024 is another great example of EverMinds™ in action and furthermore underpins how Borealis is continuously reinventing essentials for sustainable living. It demonstrated the value that our long-standing partnerships with leading machinery suppliers brings to our shared customers. Together, we continue to push the boundaries of plastics processing, driving innovation and sustainability in every sector we serve.
