Borealis continues its support for UAE organisations with AED 2 million in 2015

Borealis has announced it will present AED 1 million each to the Emirates National Schools and the UAE Disabled Sports Federation.

Borealis, a leading provider of innovative solutions in the fields of polyolefins, base chemicals and fertilizers, has announced it will present AED 1 million each to the Emirates National Schools and the UAE Disabled Sports Federation. Support is being provided by the Borealis Social Fund, which since 2008 has dedicated itself to enhancing the social welfare of the communities in which Borealis operates.

Emirates National Schools: instilling a passion for knowledge and science

Emirates National Schools (ENS) offers first-rate educational programmes from kindergarten through to grade 12 with the aim of preparing students for post-secondary studies. Approximately 8,000 students are currently enrolled at the five separate campuses sharing a common curriculum: Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Al Ain City, Abu Dhabi City as well as two recently inaugurated branches, Sharjah and Ras Al-Khaimah.

Secretary-General of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Emirates National Schools, H.E. Ahmed Mohammed Al Hamiri, has expressed his thanks to Borealis for their continued support of ENS, which aims to imbue students with an appreciation of their own cultural heritage whilst at the same time celebrating cultural diversity.

“Helping children acquire an enduring love of knowledge is one of our most important goals,” says Dr Kenneth Vedra, Director General of the Emirates National Schools. “We appreciate the generous means made available by Borealis because they will assist us in the ongoing development of our science and engineering programmes, among others.”

UAE Disabled Sports Federation: promoting active integration into society

The UAE Disabled Sports Federation was founded with the aim to promote better awareness of the special needs of the disabled and to encourage their active integration into society. Federation athletes participate in regional, national and international events in a wide variety of athletic disciplines.

"We are grateful for the ongoing support provided by Borealis," says H.E. Mohammed M. Fadhel Al Hameli, Secretary-General of the Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs and Chairman of the UAE Disabled Sports Federation. "By enabling our talented athletes to prove themselves in the public arena, we facilitate their integration as active members of society, to the benefit of all. Borealis’ support will make a significant contribution to our participation in the Paraolympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.”

“The Borealis Social Fund was founded in order to give something back to the communities where we operate,” explains Borealis Chief Executive Mark Garrett. “Our continuing cooperation with important national organisations like the Emirates National Schools and the UAE Disabled Sports Federation enables Borealis to promote education, intercultural awareness and excellence, each of which are central to our core Borealis values.”

Borealis Chief Executive Mark Garret presented the 2015 Borealis Social Fund cheques to each organisation at a special ceremony on 28 October 2015 in Dusit Thani Hotel, Abu Dhabi.

By way of its Borealis Social Fund, the company has provided regular support for a range of humanitarian and educational organisations in the UAE such as the Red Crescent, the Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care, the Family Development Foundation, and other select charities.
