Set Sail for Innovation:

Borealis to bring Polarcirkel™ boat to K 2025

In partnership with AKVA group

K 2025 is still seven months away, but anticipation is already building. Borealis has been a long-term attendee of this landmark event, and this year we’ll once again be showcasing our most advanced materials that unite high performance, sustainability, and circularity.

Guiding us is the theme ‘Curious. Collaborative. Circular.’, which inspires everything we’re bringing to K 2025—including an extraordinary centerpiece: one of AKVA group’s iconic Polarcirkel™ workboats, featuring a hull made from renewable plastics.

Built to endure some of the toughest conditions on the planet—from the icy Arctic to the blazing tropics — Polarcirkel boats are renowned for their exceptional durability. Now, thanks to our Bornewables™ portfolio, they deliver this performance with a significantly reduced carbon footprint.

Curious. Collaborative. Circular.

The Polarcirkel boat brings this year’s theme to life:

  • Curiosity: We started with a simple question: can renewable materials meet the high performance standards required for demanding marine applications?
  • Collaboration: Working closely with AKVA group, we combined our expertise in polyolefins with their deep knowledge of marine technology to identify a solution to meet these unique requirements.
  • Circularity: The result is a boat hull based on circular materials derived from renewable feedstocks, delivering the same durability and performance but with a significantly reduced carbon footprint.

Sustainability meets performance

The Polarcirkel boat’s hull is made from materials in our Bornewables portfolio—a range of premium, circular polyolefins derived from renewable feedstocks. These materials deliver the same high performance as virgin plastics but with a substantially reduced carbon footprint.

The BorSafe™ PE100-RC grade, if made with Bornewables feedstock, contains 90% renewable content calculated using a mass balance approach. This material reduces CO₂ emissions by an estimated 1.9 kg for every kilogram produced compared to fossil-based equivalents.

BorSafe PE100-RC grade was originally developed for the infrastructure industry. Its use in maritime applications highlights the versatility of our materials and our innovative approach to adapting proven solutions to meet the unique demands of new industries.

Set Sail for Innovation

The Polarcirkel boat is more than a technical achievement—it’s a bold demonstration of the fact that circular materials can meet even the toughest performance demands.

Join us at K 2025 to see the Polarcirkel boat front and center at our stand— a powerful reminder that curiosity, collaboration, and circularity are essential to shaping a more sustainable future for our industry. We can’t wait to welcome—let’s Set Sail for Innovation together!
